Mark has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, having held various executive positions at an international level at BP. Mark led several E&P key units in Alaska, the North Sea and in North America. After that, he was part of the E&P Executive Group, overseeing an international portfolio with units in Angola, Trinidad, Egypt, Algeria and the Gulf of Mexico. Mark led the internal investigation of the Deepwater Horizon incident in 2010, and is the author of “Bly Report” that defined the understanding of the event by the industry and established the basis for the founding of the new organization and global drilling practices at BP. His last role at BP was Executive Vice President of Safety and Operational Risk, where he led the global effort, resulting in safety and reliability improvements in the operating units of BP. He currently serves as an independent director of Baytex Energy and of Vista Energy. Mark received a Master’s in Structural Engineering from UC Berkeley and Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from UC Davis.
