Now that same Google search pulls up several pages of links to Prescriptive Analytics as it begins to gain notice from analyst firms such as OVUM, and as companies begin talking about developing their own flavor of the technology. Just a few weeks ago, Gartner Research added Prescriptive Analytics to its 2013 Hype Cycle of Emerging Technologies.
Prescriptive Analytics is the third and final stage of Big Data Analytics. You have Descriptive Analytics, which tells you what has happened and why. Predictive Analytics that tells you what will happen. And then you have Prescriptive Analytics, which tells you what will happen, when, why and how to improve this predicted future.
